After taking the ferry from Bainbridge Island to Seattle we were shut
out on hotels. The day-of-Priceline-routine failed us for the first
time! Hours on the phone to no avail... well there was one - Panama
Hotel. After reading the reviews though, we thought better of it.

We still had a great time in the city. Pike Place Market has amazing
smoked salmon which we purchased for future meals. Then, we ate
dinner down on the water. Our first Dungeness Crabs. It is like a
cross between a blue crab and a snow crab. A "snue crab", if you are
into Liger vernacular.

Since then, we have been heading south down the coast. We lucked out
by passing through Astoria, OR on the day of a street fair. Fresh
fruit, homemade tortilla quesadillas... yum. Monday was our 2nd
Anniversary! We celebrated with a stay at an inn on Oregon's famed
Cannon Beach. The views of Haystack Rock were incredible. It was
really hard to leave and camp the next night! We didn't get back on
the road until 2pm (partly because we cracked one of our tire rims and
had a slow leak that needed fixing). To help the transition back to
tent life, we decided it was time to step up our camp cooking efforts!
Up to this point, over 75% of our meals have been pasta. The
remedy... fish tacos of our own and some of Oregon's finest
microbrewed beer. Success.

We continue down the coast today. The views are incredible and never
ending. It is very difficult to drive more than 20 miles at a time,
but we need to get down to SF by thursday. One could spend
weeks/months on this coastline.

A couple of questions that have come up this week along the hiking trails...

1) What is the origin of "Sally Forth"?
2) What is the median income in Manhattan?
3) What is the definition of a "Southern Belle"?
4) How big is a Prairie Dog?
