Sembra che ad Ushuaia nessuno abbia mai visto sci alpinisti. Diventiamo subito l’attrazione del luogo. Ci ripetono “ma andate con gli sci?” con un sogghigno beffardo. Sta di fatto che verso le 9 (un po’ tardi perché il meteo era incerto) partiamo dall’albergo con un tassista un po’ improvvisato. Raggiungiamo un luogo dove c’è un piccolo rifugio. Anche qui troviamo persone che ci additano ridendo e non credono che si possa salire con gli sci, va bè! Da prima un sentiero ci porta veloci all’attacco di una piccola lingua di neve dove possiamo mettere gli sci e salire con le pelli. Ci si sente vicini alla città perché la baia rimane proprio al di sotto, ma l'ambiente è selvaggio. Nessuno! Solo noi a risalire questi pendii. Arriviamo in cima dopo lunghi traversi un po’ esposti La vista è mozzafiato. La discesa è…WOW! ripida quanto basta per serfare su 10cm di polvere appoggiata su uno strato di neve compatta ma non gelata.
Arrivo alla base e penso…”ora rido io!”.
